About David Bailey

Biography

David Bailey is a professional appraiser of quilted textiles, a quilt maker, quilt collector and lecturer. He is working toward earning certification by the American Quilter’s Society as a quilted textile appraiser. He has completed the required AQS Three-Day Appraisal Skills Course as well as the optional AQS classes Quilt Dating and Hands-On Appraising which all support his ability to determine Insurance Replacement Value, Fair Market Value, and Donation Value of quilted textiles.

Before discovering the quilting community, David taught at a community college in central Michigan. He’s areas of instruction included general biology for non-science students, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry. He also a co-authored an internationally adopted biology textbook.

David’s current interests include the history of quilts, the history of fabric and he is documenting the history of the inscribed quilts that he has collected. He is currently researching a quilt from the 1880’s with 218 names that map to Branch and Calhoun Counties in south west Michigan.
